In the heart of the enchanting rolling fields, lived a boy named Shepherd. His being was essentially unadulterated, simple, and honest. His primary duty was mainly to look after his flock of rams.
Their gentle baas and the rustling of the breezes across the single tree on the hilltop were his constant co-dwellers. Day in day, looking out for his wards instilled in him a notion of calm satisfaction.
However, there were the occasional moments of solitude, when the shepherd boy would yearn for fellowship. On one such day out of sheer tedium, the shepherd boy orchestrated a naughty scheme.
Narratives of wild beasts hunting on sheep had been heard times and again in the hamlet. So, the boy opted to leveraged this fear and played a trick on the townsfolk.
One day he ran into the village yelling “Wolf! A wolf is preying on my sheep!” The terrified villagers sprinted up the hills for rescue but discovered nothing threatening.
The boy chuckled at the dilemma on their faces. This prank continued for a few days more. Yet, one morning, a real wolf website did come to prey the grazing sheep. The shepherd boy ran for aid shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one responded.
Frustrated and alone, the boy battled against the wolf but managed to protect only few of his flock. Heartbroken, he went back to the town only to be met with a scolding on honesty and the repercussions of false alarms.
The story of this shepherd boy has been transmitted generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the significance of honesty, the consequences of lying and the dangers of false alarms. Moreover, it emphasizes how trust once lost, is hard to reclaim. It's a story as relevant today as it was then.
